SF Dyes is a family owned company that manufactures textile dyes and specialty inks. Over the past 6 years, we have been designing desktop calendars as a corporate give-away for SF Dyes. Each year’s design concept is unique, radically different and works to represent the company’s activities. Each artwork / illustration created by Kena is original and enhances the concept of colour as perceived or used in different contexts. All calendars have a very functional and robust date pad, which is never compromised for the sake of the visual.
2016: The 2016 calendar celebrates the colourful chaos and variety of Indian bazaars. It features striking photographs of the objects and activities that characterize a typical, busy Indian market.
2015: Different styles of Indian folk art were illustrated in the 2015 calendar. Each layout features a different animal and a tree. The entire calendar has a warm, friendly colour palette and the hand-made artworks give it an inviting, traditional feel.
2012: Age-old idea of sun signs has been approached in a novel manner with original illustrations and the idea of colours is highlighted by the elements each of these sun-signs represents. Thus a water sign had mainly aqua coloured background and an earth sign had hues and tones of brown and green as background.
2011: Using original illustrations, Kena team have visualized flowering seasons of trees in Bangalore as they bloom in each of the 12 months.
2010: Since the company manufactures Dyes for fabrics, we looked at Indian motifs on fabrics for inspiration and found that Peacock motif is one of the most used and most stylized motif in Indian fabrics. The 12 pages of this calendar contain illustrations of peacock motifs as they are printed or embroidered using various craft based techniques.
2009: Our clients sourced these old (pre-independence time) labels that were used on the packaging of the Dyes. The colours and typography and imagery of these labels reflected a sense of nostalgia and provided a peek into the history of Dye manufacturers in India!
2008: We designed a very functional layout with focus on the Date Pad. Strips of colours identified weeks and the colour palette used only two colours added with tonal range of these two colours for each month. So, while each page looked like a multi-colour layout, in essence it used only two different hues!
2007: Kena team worked with a Textile Designer to showcase variety of weaves in unusual materials such as ropes, wool, wires, tapes, and strands of plastic dyed in variety of colours, thus emphasizing the company’s product and services in Dyes.
2006: Our very first calendar for SF Dyes uses the idea of spontaneous mixing and transforming of hues. The artworks were original works of a budding artist who was a student of Srishti at the time.
